Slingers

Slingers issue 2 cover

SLINGERS spun out of the pages of SPIDER-MAN and quickly established an enduring cult following for its portrayal of four New York City college freshmen thrust into a game of super-heroics and adventure they were never prepared for after four super-identities are bestowed upon them by mysterious benefactor. When a rooftop training exercise goes bad and one of the team falls to their death in the dark alley below, the surviving teammates do what any young person in over their head might do — RUN LIKE HELL! Forced to understand that with great power there comes great responsibility, RICOCHET, HORNET, PRODIGY and DUSK soon find themselves evading the police, the mob, suspicious parents and all the REAL super heroes and villains the Marvel Universe could throw at them. Realizing they've been manipulated, the group is split apart before they can really come together as a true team of heroes born from tragedy and in search of triumph.

The scrappy series ran for twelve issues and marked the monthly comics writing debut of JOE HARRIS whom WIZARD MAGAZINE described as scripting "...great teen angst." The stories are in search of a collected edition and can only be found in the back-issue bins at present.
